Legal Counsel I

<p>Takealot Group, the largest and most customer-centric online shopping destination in Africa, is looking for a highly talented <strong>Legal Counsel I</strong> to join our Legal team in Cape Town.</p> <p>We are a young, dynamic, hyper-growth company looking for smart, creative and hard-working people with integrity to join us.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel: </strong><a href="http://takealot.com/MrD"><strong>Takealot.com/MrD</strong></a><strong>,</strong></p> <p><strong>Responsibilities will include:&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>Draft, review and assist with the negotiation of various commercial contracts on behalf of the Takealot Group businesses, eg <a href="http://takeal.com">Takealot.com</a> and MrD.</li> <li>Update and improve template documents</li> <li>Advise on and attend to dispute resolution and general litigation matters</li> <li>Advise on and attend to employment law matters</li> <li>Advise on and attend to banking and finance legal matters</li> <li>Manage the Takealot Group’s intellectual property portfolio and assist with the settlement of intellectual property disputes</li> <li>Monitor and advise on new legal developments affecting the Takealot Group</li> <li>Conduct legal research, draft legal opinions, and provide legal advice to the <a href="http://takealot.com">Takealot.com</a> and MrD, as required&nbsp;</li> <li>Provide and/or facilitate training</li> <li>Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders of <a href="http://takealot.com">Takealot.com</a> and MrD primarily and to the Group, as and when required&nbsp;&nbsp;</li> <li>Assist with the design, implementation, and management of software and AI technology, and their standard operating procedures (SOPs), to aid the delivery of legal services to <a href="http://takealot.com">Takealot.com</a> and MrD that is scalable to the Group</li> <li>Support the legal team as required</li> </ul> <p><strong>Attributes:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Proactive with a consistently positive attitude</li> <li>Team player</li> <li>Good drafting skills</li> <li>Ability to work hard independently and within a team</li> <li>Ability to prioritise numerous competing tasks and meet deadlines</li> <li>Ability to communicate well orally and in writing</li> <li>Strong planning and organisational skills</li> <li>Detail-oriented whilst remaining practical</li> <li>Good working knowledge of South African law in general</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;<strong>Qualifications &amp; Experience:</strong></p> <ul> <li>LLB, admitted attorney or advocate in South Africa</li> <li>3-5 years post-admission experience at the bar, a well-established law firm, or in the in-house legal department of a large corporate</li> <li>Experience in corporate and commercial law is essential, and particularly in drafting&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; and reviewing contracts&nbsp;</li> <li>Experience leading and/or mentoring legal professionals</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience in e-commerce or retail would be ideal</li> </ul> <p><strong>The Environment:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Takealot Group employees are entrepreneurial and dynamic, smart, customer-centric, fun, and have the shared ambition of being the leading e-commerce company in Africa.</li> <li>We have fun, work hard, take ownership, work in teams to create solutions, and are always open to direct feedback/new ideas on where we can improve</li> <li>We are short on ego and high on output</li> <li>We are doers and not only thinkers, it’s all in the execution after all</li> <li>We love what we do and what we are creating.</li> </ul> <p>If you meet the above criteria and are an<strong> Extraordinary Mind</strong>, come and join us!</p> <p><em>Takealot Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
